Woodland art

the power point was very information.  it talked about norvels life and his art. It talked about his association with the group of seven and it showed differnt styles of woodland art.  it showed a piece of art that each one of the people in  the group of seven had painted, you could clearly see the differnt techniques being used. It showed how lines and color were important to woodland art, and the pantings were based after spiritual meanings.

this video diplays novels art.  it shows the meaning behind his pieces.

What made norvel more exeptional than other artists is the fact that he tried something new.  Novel took a differnt approach to art than most artists before him.  Norvel changed the way canadians veiw art. Novel struggled with alcohol, but dispite his difficulties he persevered and created brilliant masterpieces.

gothic catherdral finished

since i am typing on the computer i dont have any pictures, i will post a completed picture tonight.  Me and olivia tryed to re build the Leon actherdral, or atleast based it after it.  We used the typical gingerbrwad house as the base of our ctherdral and built off of that.  We included all the architpypal features we could think of which includes pointed arches, rose windows, flying butresses, stained glass windows, and a tiled ceining.  We unfortunatley could not thing of a way to have gargaoyles.  I felt that our project was successful.  It turned out pretty much exactly how we had wanted it to.  I wouldnt have changed anything because it stood strong and looked clean and neat at the end.  I enjoyed the individualty of this project and that it was different from anything else ive donre before.

print making

in class we had to design some prints that we wanted to put on a pice of material , I choose a Celtic knot to put on a scarf

I put on the paint kind of piecey in stead of doing it all together

this is what it looked like when I was cutting it out

this is how I put on the paint aside from the typical way

gothic cathedrals

the gothic cathedrals were so important because they symblolized power , wealth , and prestige.  the main architectural features are pointed arches, flying buttresses , large towers and spears , pillars , stones , and stained glass.  the cathedrals had to be filled with light because that made it possible for the people to see. the cathedrals and designs were very important to the people in this time because they brought the people a sence of pride.

we had a group project recently , we're we all took a peice of a picture of 'where's Johnny' fri the shining I think it was. I took the peice of the nose for my shaded piece , here is the final product.
the project was a little messed up because everyone had different margins on there printed version of the picture. so the pictures don't match up exactly.

stepping stone

I didn't do the third light switch yet but I decided to try doing a stepping stone in the mean time. I did a crescent part of the moon in white and clear smashed stained glass and I used really deep blues and purples and blacks for the night sky. I also left a blank circle in the middle because I wanted to put some lyrics I like in it. I put the lyrics 'is there still magic in the midnight sun or did you leave it back to '61 in the cadence of a young mans eyes' and I had wanted to put the rest of it that said 'out where the dreams all hide' I got this song quote from the song dustland fairytale by the killers.

mosaic

I didn't like how the element movaic was turning out so I popped all the materials off the light switches and started over. I am doing different materials now. like for one I have shattered glass

for another I did stained glass

and for one I used tile

I'm thinking for the final light switch ill use shells. I'm planning on bringing some in tomorrow to try it out.

my mosaic

my idea for my mosaic is to do a series of four light switch covers and make then look like the four elements; water, fire , air , and earth. I am trying to brainstorm some possible ideas for what materials I could use for each light switch cover , I will do a blog post regarding each one of the elements and the ideas I have already come up with for the materials , if anyone has any suggestions for possible materials feel free to comment them below. :)

dot day

there's this international day called 'dot day' our art class is participating in dot day and we are creating a mural that demonstrates dots and our creative abilities. each one of the people in our art class has there own little square to decorate and do our own circle design in. there are many great ideas in our class. I choose to do the round colorful part of the eyeball , I am hoping to come up with another idea and try something else tomorrow , if anyone has anymore ideas of what I could do with a circle please feel free to comment:) but for now here's my eyeball

mosaic

we are soon going to be working with mosaics in class , a mosaic is a picture or some type of pattern made by arranging small colorful pieces of a hard material together to create a greater image. mosaics have been created and use for thousands of years. the purpose of mosaics varies on the religious beliefs of whom ever created the mosaic or what period of time they came from. some mosaics were created for interior decoration , some were also just created because the creator wanted to make a work of art , and finally some were made to display some sort of cultural or spiritual significance.

scrapbook

in art class we were asked to create our idea of a scrapbook. my idea of a scrapbook is to express yourself. I think that in the ideal art scrapbook there should be an eye catching cover page

there should also be something showing colors because I think colors are an ideal part of art, to demonstrate the colors in my art scrapbook I used nail polish colors because I also think that nails art is a part of art and a way to express yourself that isn't so extravagant

I put a page with a few pictures of me and my friends on one of the pages because I think it's essential to have a little bit of yourself in the ideal art sketch book

my next four pages I used to demonstrate four different materials that can be used in art

I choose watercolor , acrylic , pastels , and pencil because they are my favourite art tools so far.

and last but not least a back cover that compliments the front cover

this is my idea for an ideal art scrapbook , if anyone has and ideas they think could improve my book please feel free to comment below

first assignment

for our first assignment we were told to use some of the elements of art in a poster , my group used a few of the elements to express ourselves in our poster

we used many elements of color along with various lines and shapes. we included sparkles to create some texture and we also used shaped to display value.

gr 10 questions

I think art is a way to express yourself and your feelings towards anything and everything. I'm exited to learn new skills this year and develop on the skills I am already familiar with. I think that art can be different to many people , the common definition of art is

I think that there are no limits on art. the way google describes art is just one point of view on it. art can be defined any way , and the way different people would define art can also tell alot about them and what type of people they are. for example one may enjoy observing abstract art and other people could prefer well known master pieces like the monalisa

A few pics of my mask and what i was basing it after

video

So here is our final art culminating! we built masks and legends and finally we got to build a movie, we incorperated our masks into ourplay and we used georgias legend which i think i mentioned in one of my older blog posts.  we filmed the majority of this outside to get a more 'real' look, there are a few improvments i think could have been made such as we could have dressed up a bit to make it look better, also the last scence where the sun and the moon sort of duck out and the lunar eclpise comes up could have been demonstraded in a better more creative way but over all i feel like this was a good first attempt and learning experience.  I hope we will be able to experiment with it some more next year so we can maybe get a better grasp on it.  My favourite part of our entire culminating was probably finishing the masks becasue you really didnt know how they were gonna look untill they had all the finishing touches on them and i think they all turned out pretty good, ill post a picture of my mask after this post so everyone can see it. hope everyone enjoys the video!:)

sun and moon first post

my group for art is isabella tedii georgia and mitchell. we decided to act out georgias legend and there's a link to that at the bottom.  the characters we chose to make masks for are the sun, the moon, the eclipse, and the sign lady. I will be making a mask of the eclipse. we choose these characters because we felt that they summed up the important parts of the legend and we felt that there was no need to make human masks, we should try something different. for our 'play' we will be taping it and playing it back to the class, there are many characters in the myth so there is enough for all of us.  we wanted to have more than three in our group though because we wanted to try multiple masks and we wanted each character to be different to avoid confusion.

My myth

Why do we have the English language?
Long, long ago on the very earth we live on today a war broke out between the humans and the namuhs. The namuhs have opposite morals of the humans, we as humans believe in life, love, respect, loyalty  the namuhs believed in death, hatred, sin and pure evil.  For thousands of years the namuhs and humans lived in peace with each other, they stayed on difference sides of the world and respected the borders, never crossing into another’s property.  Until one day a new leader took over the land of the namuhs and convinced them that the world was there’s for the taking.  The namuhs created an army and prepared for battle, they ambushed the humans and the humans that were not violently slaughtered mostly went into hiding, only leaving there hidden shelter and coming out into the open when they absolutely needed something.  Some humans were traitors and worked for the namuhs, these humans were given small houses, a supply of food and the gift of living in exchange for becoming slaves for the namuhs.  Three years after the attack the nmauhs thought they had the earth under control, what they didn’t know was there was a secret rebel force called the switchers underground that were planning an attack against the namuhs , the switchers had originally consisted of two friends that realized they needed to do something  shortly after the ambush, these two friends created a plan to switch the power from the hands of the namuhs back into the hands of the humans. The switchers have recruited over 2000 humans that have agreed to fight for their freedom, some of the switchers even worked as slaves for the namuhs to try to hear about their plans for the future. The switchers plan was to go to the North Pole which was considered the centre of the planet and was were the creation of all life was said to be born.  The creation story that the ancestors passed down about the North Pole was that many, many years ago a massive bolt of lightning struck the North Pole and at that time all the negative energy in the universe was transfer directly on one side of the earth and all the positive energy was transferred on the other. The namuhs and humans were born out of this energy.  This was not the information that mattered to the switchers; the swirchers cared about the second part of the creation story, the part that claimed that there was a switch to combine the humans and namuhs creating an entire new race that could live compatibly with one another.  This new race would experience hate, love, life, death and all the other emotions we experience today.  The story had it that this switch lay on the very ground of where this lightning struck many years ago.  The switchers believed that flipping the switch was the only way to stop this mayhem and let the world live compatibly once again. Completing this would take the participation of all 2000 switchers.  The switchers plan was to place all 2000 switchers in a line all the way to the beginning of the North Pole, a note with instructions will be passed down the line until eventually the note makes it to the final person in the line, the final person in the line will stand at the beginning of the North Pole, the switcher will run across the North Pole and read the instructions off the paper and flip the switch.  The switchers ran into a problem though, the namuhs spoke the same language as the humans so if any of the namuhs caught the note being passed and read it, all of the switchers would be killed immediately and the plan would be destroyed, there would be no chance for any good to ever roam the earth again.  The switchers quickly thought up a solution to their problems, they would simply create a new language, a language only the switchers could understand.  This way even if the namuhs opened the note they would not even understand one word of it.  The switchers studied there newly developed language day and night for months on end until they could fully speak the language.  They settled on calling the language ‘English’ because the two friends who originally started the rebel group were named Enily and Joglish.  The language symbolized the switcher’s independence and while speaking their own language they felt as if they were in control for once.   Now 4 years after the ambush the switchers were ready to make a move.  They slowly assembled a line that the note would be passed along, they move a little bit down every day until they were ready to pass the note.  They had to do it this way because if they were to have only runner go the whole way the runner would either get dehydrated, caught or even killed and the fate of the world would all depend on one runner.  This way if one switcher got killed or captured the line could carry on and the mission would still be successful.  It took several months for the switchers to form a line all the way to the North Pole, but it finally happened.  Throughout the years that the switchers were preparing to flip the switch they had competitions and training over who the final runner would be.  Just before the line was formed the final runner was selected, he was a young man named Peace.  Peace led the line over the several months.  Finally the plans were ready to be put into action.  The day the note was pasted to the first switcher was a legendary day for the entire rebel force; they knew that they could change the world.  The note was passed down the line relatively smoothly running into very few problems, a few switchers were captured, a few backed out last minute, and a few were killed.  The note continued to be passed along the line though.  Weeks and months passed but the note finally made it to Peace.  Peace received the note and sprinted as fast as he could to the middle of the North Pole; to the switch. The run took longer than expected and the other switchers began to worry that Peace had been caught.  Approximately one week later Peace reached the switch, he knew the fate of the world was in his hands.  He knew that this could go very wrong or very right, he understood that the humans and the namuhs would be combined, and he realized the consequences that would happen if the bad out power the good in this new race.  But he had been dreaming about this day since the switchers first recruited him many years ago, this was his time to change the Earth.  Peace opened the note and read what he must do; he must flip the switch and keep his hand on the switch the entire time, the change would be made when the lightning struck again like it did many years ago.  Peace would die, but he would die for the better good of the people.  He flipped the switch without hesitation.  The day went as the ancestors said it would.  There was a huge celebration and as the switchers thought when the humans and namuhs combined the good of the humans out powered that bad of the namuhs.  At the celebration English was designated an official language because without English the entire mission would be impossible to complete.  And finally, a new word was added to the English language, the word was peace, in memory and respect to the man that gave this world a chance to prosper; a chance to have peace.

myths

over the past few days in art class we've been watching a video that has to do with ancient traditions behind the creation of certain masks, we've talked about why certain things in cultures are sacred and we talked about what type of materials some masks are made up of and why they are made up of that. some traditions that I saw while watching the video included lots of dancing, tutorial dances, tribal and spiritual dances, and just dance for the fun of dancing in some cases. in many of the tribal and spiritual dances masks were a big part of the dance, the masks symbolized the ancient gods, cultures believed that by wearing the masks while dancing they were 'connecting' to there ancestors and the ancient gods there ancestors spread tales about. traditions are important to many cultures because it keep the cultures secretly connected..this is also the reason that some traditions should be kept sacred, if only certain cultures know the traditions, the traditions almost define them as a culture. many people also believe that if the sacred traditions are shared they will slowly fade away until they become nothing but a forgotten myth. we also learned about the materials of masks and why the materials are used. some materials that were used included turtle shells and metal, some cultures also used carved coral. they choose these materials because for one the believed there was a spiritual meaning behind these objects and two, they can basically stand against the test of time, in other words they would stay around or a long time. it is important for us to know what materials/objects these ancient masks were made out of because this way we know what was available to these people at the time it was made and it helps us better understand exactly were and when it was first created

hanna and isabella

okay and heres the video that me and isabella did together, we didnt really runinto any problems while taping it besides the fact that my hand was in one of the pictures but we ran out of and and didnt want to tape the whole thing again so we just left it. we originally planned to do a nest and real eggs and like a plastice chick, but we both had some easter stuff left over so we thought it might be cuter if we did an easter type scence.

my stop animation

i decided to do my own personal stop animation along with the one i did with isabella, now mines pretty simple compared to some of the stop animation videos ive seen but this was only my first attempt so i didnt want to try to go in over my head, i used water color and sharpie to do this video and this one took about 700 pictures to film. i had some problems adding it to youtube so i hope the quality looks okay..i had to upload it to my computer, then tape it and add to to youtube using my phone because for some reason my laptop wasn't connecting. anyways here it is!

Monday 22 April 2013

birds eye perspective finished

so here's the finished version of my birds eye perspective art. I used shading an shapes in this artwork and if anyone has any improvements that they think can be made please let me know so I can improve it! but anyways I tried to do like a darkish type city and I wanted to try some unique shaped buildings so I could experiment with shading different shapes!

Sunday 7 April 2013

birds eye perspective

I'm not completely done yet but I wanted to post my progress..in the first picture I just some rough sketches, in the second picture I did some shading along with unique shapes that I might have wanted to try out an in the final picture is my good copy, I'm not done it yet so ill post more about it when it's finished but I would love any suggestions about improvements that I could make!:) and ill post the finished product tomorrow night

Thursday 4 April 2013

stamp

so here's my finished product of my stamp, as you can see I used many elements of art from the tree stump being the texture if my speakers an the arrows being magazine pictures. I used shape in my border and lines in my 'RE"s. I would love to get some feedback on what everyone thinks:)

Monday 1 April 2013

stamps

okay so we have been working on stamps that have to do with an environmental issue, so I chose energy and did for sketches of a possible stamp. after this we had to do a good copy and I kind of for got to take it home so I'm hoping my teacher gonna be really cool and let me finish it up tomorrow.. but anyways I did a reduce, reuse, recycle stamp with is a really common slogan but I find it effective so thatswhy I used it. the second one I did was a 'green' light bulb with bolder word that simply say 'save energy' I figured I may aswell cut to the point. the third one I did was a light switch with a corny saying that went like 'turn off the lights, turn on smart choices' or something along those lines, I thought it was sort of catchy and cute so why not. and for the fourth and final stamp I have wind mills wit the saying 'natural energy, healthy energy' now I admit this one could use some work, but again it's only a rough draft so there is some room for improvement. please comment what you think! or any ideas or suggestions:)

Thursday 21 March 2013

texture art

so we've been working with textures a bit and for this art we had to cut out pieces of magazines and glue them on a piece of paper to make a picture. mostly everyone did a landscape but I wanted to try something different so I tried an eye. I used creams, whites, blues, browns and blacks. I put all the parts of the eye horizontal except the eyelashes. I did it like this to make the eyelashes appear to 'pop'. I felt I could have done a better job on this project but oh well, it was my first attempt so I tried my best. I would love some feedback:)

Thursday 28 February 2013

puzzle pieces

in art we've been working with shapes so in this puzzle piece we worked with some shapes and watercolor. the color I chaise for this are blue, green, and purple. I did a variety of circles, squares, and triangles over this puzzle piece. I did the background a lighter color to make the shapes stand out more. in the shapes that I painted blue or green I chose purpose to do the over lap..and vise versa. there are a variety of different sized shapes.

lines

as I said in my last post we've recently been working with lines. so we just did a few examples of different direction and curved lines to kinda familiarize ourselves with them..so here are mine!
